we have had the best weekend!  g played "don't starve" and "battlefront" while i played with my hobonichi and midori.  we got a little work done.  i cooked twice (spaghetti and cranberry pork loin).  we both had friends over.  g discussed "the force awakens" theories with his guest while i looked at cruise pics with mine.  life is good.  speaking of good.  here  are a few new "good blog reads" to enjoy.

i drove to kroger on sunday to stock up on necessities such as milk and coke as this is what southerners are wont to do when there is a forecast of inclement weather.  snowbird finally smiled upon us and we received the blessing of an entire week off of school.  i have left my home three times this week.  once on the fully documented sledding trip, once down the road for a restock on milk (in which my car almost didn't start, i had to knock a two inch slab of ice off my windshield and a myriad of icicles from the undercarriage that were holding it immobile, and witnessed two rednecks deicing the dollar general with a mini blowtorch), and then today to our cub scout blue and gold banquet.  i wore my flaming converse again for moral support.  upon my return this afternoon, i took the only shovel i own and for the very first time in my life shoveled snow ice off my deck.  the sun did not shine today, so it was still a good inch and a half thick even with the balmy 40 degree weather.  i cleared a straight and narrow path to my car as i fear it will be a solid sheet of ice come morning and i don't want that to be my excuse not to go to church.  i really need to get there so i can petition the good lord for an early spring as i am mostly finished with the season we are in.

we had such a great time last weekend with our cub scouts.  this was our view from our tenth floor hotel room.  it actually snowed the first night we were there.  what a beautiful scene to wake up to.  ice skating was no g's favorite, but snow skiing was.  i am so thankful for the opportunities and friendships we've had with these people.  it is bittersweet to think about crossing over and moving on next month, but the future waits for no one.

how sweet is this?  g's holding my niece's new kitty.  he would love to have one of his own, but i'm just not sure i'm ready to be a cat lady (title given to single women with 3+ cats).  really, i'm just not sure the litter box can handle one more.  moving on . . .

we are home safe and sound again.  whew!  i am always so relieved once the long drive is over.  i have had a revelation though about listening to podcasts on the road.  perhaps i'll subscribe to this new technology and our next trip will be much more tolerable.

but today, today i have been thoroughly enjoying a rainy day at home.  g had a sleepover buddy and i heard them laughing and concocting stories all afternoon.  rain and children playing.  two of my favorite sounds.  i quietly scrapped and blogged.  two very relaxing and enjoyable pastimes.  a very good day was had by all.

hello friends!  how is life treating you?  it's quite nice here.  i do have a bit of a cold, though.  you know how colds are.  i had been ignoring it all week and then a kindly coworker asked how i was and that's all it took.  colds are pesky things; once you acknowledge them, they think they can burrow in and stay a while.  hmph.  yesterday was parent teacher conferences at school, so i had to work from 7am to 7pm, but this morning only 8:00 to noon.  it was actually nice to get several things done without the kids there.  i feel more on top of things now and that's a very nice feeling.  my little sweet potato got to spend the night with one of his besties last night, so my cold and i made an early night of it.  8:00pm to 7am.  wow!  that felt amazing!  now i am looking forward to baked spaghetti that i did not bake myself and an evening jaunt to michael's (hello! i don't even have to drive) to check out the new heidi swapp goodies that everyone's been instagramming.  it's still cold around these parts, but there's another forecast of snow at the midnight hour.  perhaps we'll wake up to a blanket of white.  my camera is anxious for that.  i hope you have a lovely weekend ahead.  if you're looking for a little extra reading material, here are a few new blogs i've stumbled upon recently.  it's an exceptionally good batch.  enjoy.  :)

well, friends.  we are celebrating tonight our first "snow" day of the season.  a two hour early dismissal due to the "threat" of inclement weather.  i've said it before and i'll say it again.  i do so love being a southerner living in the south.  as soon as we left school, we went to pick up g's sleepover playdate, made a quick pit stop at the dollar general for supplies, and then rushed home to hole up for the night.  i quickly forgot all about elise's #mileaday challenge.  meh.  i'm sure all the walking in the freezing cold that i'll be doing tomorrow during the christmas parade will more than make up for it.  i've been merrily printing photos all eveningfor this year's december daily that i have yet to start in between supervising g's baking extravaganza.  now i'm ready to hit the sack and remembered i have yet to blog.  in an effort to keep at least one of my daily activities afloat, i am throwing down a quickie post.  just a very few good blog reads that i had in que.  enjoy!  and now i'm off to snuggle under the quilts with a good book and bejeweled blitz.  :)
